Can't Sleep? Talk To The Onion!
Sleep and Anxiety; little things we can try to ease us into a good
nights sleep.
The first step is to quieten the mind from the days clutter. Embrace
some silence, and let your thoughts be as passing clouds moving over you.
Start gently perhaps a chamomile teabag in the bath. Dried hops
under pillow, lavender oil in a warm bath before bed, blackout curtains, don't
eat in the 2-3 hours before you go to bed, sit upright and meditate in bed in
the dark (might just relax you to send you to sleep). Eat lots of lettuce and incorporate herbs
like basil and sage into your diet. For those with a sweet tooth licorice is
also good.
One of my Grandmas insomnia tricks was to cut an onion and put it in
a jar, as you are going to bed, open the jar, sniff the onion and then close
it! Saying these words “But to my nose a gentle sting but tis' worth the sleep
that I shalt win”. It does work try it!
If your insomnia is quite severe try a nightly tincture of Valerian
root, lavender flowers and hops. Valerian is also a natural painkiller so good
for folk who struggle with sleep because of muscular aches and pains.
Happy Dreaming. Tierney x
